How much does global phone service cost?

The first week rental charge is $20.00; each additional week is  $20.00  per week. Round-trip shipping per rental is $35.00. Airtime rates are fixed per minute rates and vary by country. Please call GPW at (800) 556-0530 for our full rate schedule. Our rates are guaranteed to be competitive with major carriers. Please note that there are no hidden costs (i.e. there are no additional long distance charges, roaming charges, tolls, taxes or surcharges).

Why is there a weekly rental charge?

The weekly rental charge ensures that the phones are returned promptly after the end of the rental period.

My provider says my phone will work overseas.

Even if your phone is compatible with international cellular standards, your phone may only be set up with a domestic calling plan. To use your phone overseas, you may need to upgrade to an international plan, which may mean signing a new term contract. In addition you may need to change your phone settings.

Will I know my phone number before I leave for my trip?

Yes, you will receive your cell phone and phone number before you leave the country. In addition, you will receive five (5) pre-printed business cards that include your name, phone number, and dates of travel. These can be left with family members or important contacts.

When will my phone be shipped and how do I return the phone?

On the order form, you will indicate the date you would like to receive your phone. If you leave it blank, we will send you the phone one business day prior to your departure date. To return the phone, you will use the pre-printed airbill label and the original box.

How long after my trip will I receive a bill?

We will send you an invoice after we have collected all the call usage data for your rental. Typically, you should receive a full invoice within 30 days after the phone has been returned. However, depending on the network provider and country, you may not receive a complete invoice for 60 to 90 days after the phone has been returned.

When will my credit card be billed?

We charge a fully refundable $100 deposit each week of the rental to cover anticipated airtime charges. You will receive an invoice whenever we charge your credit card. If your total bill is more than the collected deposit, we will charge your credit card upon final invoice.

What if my destination country is not on the list?

We also have Satellite phones available that work in countries where no have cellular coverage. Satellite phones work everywhere, even at sea.

What happens if I want to extend my trip and keep my phone?

If you need to extend your rental, call GPW customer service at (703) 903-8500 two (2) days before the end of your rental period. This GPW customer service telephone number has been pre-programmed into your phone, and there is no charge to call customer service. You can also e-mail us at info@globalphoneworks.com. Please include your updated return date in the e-mail.

How do I make phone calls or check my voicemail?

A Quick Reference guide is included with your phone. Your voicemail number is pre-programmed into your phone. Hold down the number 1 and it will connect you to your voicemail. Airtime charges to check voicemail are charged at the same rate as an outgoing phone call.

Where will my cell phone work? What if the phone doesn't work when I get to my destination?

Global Phoneworks cellular phones work in over 160 countries. For a complete list of countries please click here  to download our rate schedule. If you have trouble at your destination, call the 24 hour service line which is pre-programmed into your phone. Our customer service representatives will troubleshoot the issue and do their best to get you up and running. There is no charge to call customer service.

What comes with the phone?

Included with the phone are a Quick Start Reference Guide, calling cards, a replacement battery, a charger, a "shaver" outlet adapter and a return shipping label.

What if I lose the phone?

If your phone is lost please notify us immediately so we can disconnect service. You will not be responsible for any airtime charges that occur after you have notified us. The approximate cost of a replacement cellular phone is $400; the approximate cost of a replacement satellite phone is $1,500. GPW offers insurance for $25 for a GSM phone rental with a deductible of $150. The cost of insurance for a satellite phone is $100/rental with a deductible of $800.

What will it cost someone to call me on my cellular or satellite phone?

If you rent a GPW cellular or Thuraya phone, anyone who calls you will be calling a UK telephone number. Therefore, the caller will be charged for an international call to the UK according to the plan they have with their long distance provider. People calling an Iridium satellite phone will incur a surcharge.

I can't seem to get a signal on the Iridium satellite phone. Will the satellite phone work inside?

In order to use the Iridium satellite phone, you need "line of sight" access to the satellite network. Therefore, you will not be able to use your Iridium satellite phone indoors unless you are able to get a "line of sight" to the satellite through a window or sky light.
